10 Easy and FREE Self Care Ideas

I talk a lot about how important self care is while healing and getting empowered. But have you ever thought about what self-care truly means? It’s not just about pampering yourself with luxurious bubble baths or treating yourself to a decadent dessert (although those things can definitely help!). Self-care is also about taking care of your inner self, your mind, and your emotions. It’s a combination of small indulgences and inner work that helps you feel your best.

So this week, I wanted to offer you a few quick ideas for ways to take care of yourself that won’t cost you a dime to add into your schedule.

1. Take a relaxing bath or shower:

Set aside some time to enjoy a warm bath or shower. Light some candles, put on some relaxing music and create a soothing sense of luxury! Add in some Epson salts or bath oils if you’ve got them, but they aren’t required for this to be beneficial.

2. Practice mindfulness:

Take a few minutes each day to focus on your breath and be present in the moment. Mindfulness can help reduce stress and improve mental clarity. If you’re having trouble clearing your mind, try a guided meditation.

3. Go for a walk or do some light exercise:

Exercise is a proven way to boost endorphins, reduce stress, and improve your health. Going for a walk or doing some light exercise can help clear your mind and improve your mood.

4. Read a book or watch a movie:

Take some time to do something that you find enjoyable and relaxing- like reading a book or watching a movie. This can help you escape from daily stresses and give you a mental break. Bonus points if it makes you laugh.

5. Journal:

You know I couldn’t talk about self care without mentioning journaling! Take some time to write down your thoughts and feelings so that you can process emotions, relieve stress, and gain some clarity.

6. Connect with loved ones:

Call or spend time with family or friends. This can help reduce feelings of loneliness and provide emotional support as well as companionship and joy.

7. Take a nap or get a good night’s sleep:

Getting enough rest is so important and so underrated! Take a nap or make sure to get a good night’s sleep to recharge and refresh. Make it a priority and you will definitely feel the benefits.

8. Practice self-compassion:

Treat yourself with kindness and understanding. Practice self-compassion by acknowledging your own struggles and being patient with yourself. Remember that you are doing your best and celebrate that progress.

9. Declutter your space:

A cluttered space can lead to stress and anxiety. Take some time to clean up and declutter your living space to create a calm and organized environment. Remember, chaos around you leads to chaos inside of you.

10. Do something creative:

Find an activity that you enjoy and make time for it as much as possible. Whether it’s painting, cooking, doing a puzzle or something else entirely, engaging in a hobby can be a great way to reduce stress and improve your mood.
